VW Autostadt 2014
Since 2007, each summer spectacular water, laser and light shows are staged in the Autostadt in Wolfsburg, which create impressive effects on the water lakes in the Volkswagen theme park. After the huge success of last year's shows with the slogan "Made in Germany" this year it was the UK's turn. The premiere of shows, the world's largest water show of its kind, was celebrated on August 8th, named "Rocking UK 2014". It took the visitors, with weekly changing shows until September 7th, on a journey through the UK.
The choreography of the water shows presented the history, culture and lifestyle of the British Isles. In the first staging, from August 8th on, involved the themes "Stars & Legends" of the United Kingdom. The "Magic & Mystery" theme was from 17th to 23rd August and "Culture & Tradition" theme from August 24th to 30th. The end of the Multimedia shows until September 7th, was marked "Romance & Affairs".
The water shows are produced and choreographed by the Autostadt. Ralf Luhnen, Head of Event Department at the Autostadt, said: "More than 250 water pumps, 150 flame systems, 31 laser projectors and a new video technology created all new effects for this year".
Lunatx SFX, world-renowned specialist for pyrotechnics, special effects and music synchronized pyro and flames shows from Dusseldorf again relied on their X-Flame system that has repeatedly proven its suitability for water shows and safe ignition even under difficult conditions. Moreover, in addition to the proven, but no less spectacular the X-Sun flame effects, and the brand new X-Flowers of
Lunatx SFX were also in action for the first time.
This V-shaped set up of flames can be moved in the horizontal axis by a motor.
For the X-Sun effects, motorized arms were installed into the water, which raised the flame systems several meters out of the water. In particular, this kinetic fire effect made the biggest eye-opening success with the spectators.
Lunatx SFX flame effects this year were strongly synchronized to rhythmic electronic music besides classical pieces and film soundtracks. Songs by The Prodigy, Chase & Status and Skrillex gave "Rocking UK" a young and modern music nuance, which the spectators liked particularly.
The water shows in August and September attracted thousands of spectators every night and thrilled them with their ever new interaction of laser, light, video, flames and water effects. "We are very pleased with the attendance of the summer production. More than 537,000 guests visited the Autostadt during the summer with its various events. With 43,000 guests, the final weekend of Rocking UK was the highest number of visitors throughout the summer production," Otto F. Wachs, Director of the Autostadt.
